curb-side

skin peels off like cellophane shrink-wrap
and piles in the streets like bags full of leaves
where trucks speed by feeling important on their
coffee errands and matinee appearances
and stretched mascara faces
in escalade mirrors
look at themselves too long to notice
the flesh under their tires
with veins thrown out like puppeteer wires.

melting yesterday, solid tomorrow

everyone thinks they know
they think think think but they
don't know know
where they're coming from
or where they're going to be
when the pavement splits and the yellow lines go
back around and forward and down
and everywhere else that they can't figure out
to steer wildly as the cup holder tightens
gripping a glass of the milk of human kindness
and laboratory mice tell stories of old men
with canes and beards of grass
earning points for style with
quality brass
that will melt melt forge
and drip and shape and sizzle and orange
to save some time on a blank rigid face
so everyone can know
that to think is to hope.

in the attic

do something for someone
else before your eyes glaze over.
pull out thorns and catch
lamentations dripping off chins
pooling in between fingers and
flowing in rivers through lines
in your palm. pull open something blue
and crush something green before
oil and earth and water and dust collect
in a pile on top of your dresser drawer
like a rippling reflection of
something beautifully herioc put away
to be fondled by peanuts.

matted moon hair

moon reflections part
through cloud’s silver hair
down the curls of wind
on the breast of night
to pockets filled with leaves
pulling at the seam
past falling knees
through windows never closed
half will come inside
spilling into eyes
that drip their salty dew
to find a resting place
on arms and wrists and lips.

any better

tell me that you don't know any better
than to select sunshine on a bubble form list
than to borrow memories from some other man
replacing the space that experience missed

come to me
come to me
come to me
come to me
i'll give you any better
